The Meaning of WitnessingWhen I examine the word "witness," I must first make it personal. I ask myself, "Does my life reflect the commitment of a disciple of Christ?"
Jesus told His disciples:"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)This means that if I am truly a disciple of Christ, the Holy Spirit will empower me to be an effective witness for Him.
For the benefit of my readers who may be wondering about discipleship, I want to answer two essential questions.
How Do I Become a Disciple of Christ?1. Believe and Confess – Romans 10:9-10 teaches that salvation comes through confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in His resurrection. With the heart, we believe; with the mouth, we declare our faith.2. Repent and Be Renewed – Repentance, baptism, and transformation are key. Ephesians 1:13 and Romans 12:2 remind us that the Holy Spirit helps renew our minds and hearts, guiding us toward new life in Christ.3. Live by the Word – To remain focused, I must read, study, and live according to God's Word. Scripture serves as a guide for discipleship.
How Do I Know I Have Received the Holy Spirit?1. God’s Promise – Ephesians 1:13 assures me that believers receive the Holy Spirit upon discipleship.2. Inner Transformation – The Spirit deepens my faith, reducing worldly influences and strengthening spiritual connection (Romans 12:2).3. Spiritual Fruit – Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23) are evidence of the Spirit’s work.4. Spiritual Gifts – The Holy Spirit equips disciples with gifts such as prophecy, wisdom, and knowledge (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).5. Boldness in Witnessing – Acts 1:8 speaks of Spirit-led courage in sharing God's truth.
Jesus guarantees that with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, believers are activated to spread the Word of God. Matthew 28:19-20 affirms His command to:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
These guidelines from scripture help define what it means to become a living testimony, fully committed to life as a disciple of Christ.
I hope this reflection will help you examine how your life serves as a witness for God.
LORD, MAKE ME A LIVING TESTAMONY!
GOD BLESS YOU!!
