WORD OF THE WEEK - BODY - 1-19-25
DEFINITION - BODY An individual 3-dimentional object that has mass and that is distinquishable from other objects; the entire structure of an organism (an animal, plant or human being); a resonating chamber in a musical instrument (as the body of a violin): collection of particulars considered as a system: a group of persons associated by some common tie or occupation and regarded as an “entity” : the central message of a communication.
Scriptures:1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body.’’Galatians 5:19-21 - “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.?”10 Proverbs 4:23 - Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.1 Timothy 4:8 - “Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths, Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

THOUGHT
Based on the definition of the body above, we could discuss the term “Body” as it pertains to various subjects such as a body of knowledge, a body of water, or atomical bodies. For this discussion, however, we will focus on the human body; the temple of the Holy Spirit as described in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.
Every year we Americans spend over four trillion dollars on healthcare to improve our bodies. We invest more than eight hundred billion in fitness, sports, active recreation, equipment, apparel, and technology to enhance our physical condition, and over thirty-three billion dollars annually on weight loss products.
Americans spend more on healthcare than the combined national budgets of Defense, Education, and Social Security and the entire budget of many countries. Yet, our bodies suffer from more chronic illnesses than any other country or continent.
Six out of ten adults in the USA suffer from chronic disease, such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that stem from lifestyle choices. Heart disease and diabetes often co-exist, sharing common risk factors like obesity, poor diet, and lack of physical activity, which can damage the vessels and nerves controlling the heart.
These chronic diseases reflect deeper spiritual neglect. Proverbs 4:23 instructs us to “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.” If we were more diligent in the care of our hearts, physically, and spiritually, we would see significant healing of chronic illnesses.
While Americans spend trillions of dollars on our bodies, we also outspend other countries pursuing religious activities. We earnestly and financially support religious institutions that promote healing, but we seem to be hearers of the word rather than doers.
For example, if believers practiced just three verses from Galatians 5:19-21, not only would chronic illness diminish, but so would sin-related problems like murders, sexually transmitted diseases, school shootings, divorce, accidents, psychological and behavioral conditions, and more. How we treat our bodies reflects how we honor God.
Dear brothers and sisters, as we begin this new year, if we really want our health to improve and our bodies to become stronger, I recommend that we start with The Word of God. God’s Word is rich in instructions on how to reduce disease in our bodies and in our world:
Read the Bible and then “JUST DO IT! “
OUR HEALTH AND OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT!!
