WORD OF THE WEEK - AUGUST 8/4/24

Definition: Refers to the eighth month of the year in the Gregorian calendar, typically considered the last month of summer in the Northern Hemisphere; It is the time of refreshing and a new beginning; It also describes something that is respected and impressive, often associated with dignity and grandeur.
Scriptures:  Psalms 8:1  “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.”
Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, our Lord and god to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
Isaiah 43:19 “ See I am doing a new thing? Now it springs up: do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland”.

THOUGHT

It is raining outside.  The tropical storm is expected to be hurricane Debby by morning.  As the wind causes the increased movement in the trees, and the sky reflects a light blue hue, it is my opinion this storm is the beginning of renewal.  New mercies can only come after old things that have lost their value have passed away.    Storms bring change.This is the eighth year in the renewal cycle since the birth of Jesus, the Christ. (This is the 253rd cycle).  Experts are predicting that this cycle will result in a major world shift due to the rapid advancement of technology, changing global economics, increased environmental awareness and other social and cultural changes such as:o Countries are at war with enemies striving to change the existing world power base by forcefully taking their neighboring countries’ security, autonomy and territory.o The shifts in governance that reflect the will of the majority to governance that reflect the will of the few who are more elite, powerful or corrupt.o Conservatives and liberals are politically and violently fighting with each other to be in authority.o The deterioration of moral structures is causing humans to struggle with both their personal identity and societal responsibility.o Children are becoming depressed, anxious and hopeless as parental influence diminishes, educational systems fail, human interaction decreases, and the pandemic of technological dependence increases.  o The economic gap is widening between the affluent and the impoverished.o Religious systems are becoming spiritually bankrupt as they become entrenched in serving the gods of greed, vanity and corruption.
The United States constitution was created to reflect the spiritual virtues of the Bible.  But the growing ignorance of the laws of God validate the fact that  we are failing as “One Nation Under God”.
The Roman Empire, like the United States, was once the most influential government in the world.  Before it began its descent into authoritarian rule that benefited the powerful and the wealthy, the Romans ruled based on the virtues that addressed the well-being of all the citizens of the Empire.  They honored classic antiquity that revered the characteristics of discipline, loyalty and honor.  Unfortunately, as moral and societal decay displaced the values that benefited humankind, the nations’ dominance as world leader collapsed.  
The empire failed and the Dark Ages ensued.  Thankfully, it was the church that had the organizational structure to preserve the treasures of religion, art, literature and science, which kept the glimmer of light flickering so that the world would not plunge completely into the darkness of ignorance during the dark ages.
The United States is broken.  While the United States is becoming more like the Romans and forsaking its duty to follow the laws of God, the message of salvation offered by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is rapidly growing in Africa, Asia and South America.  
As a country, we are in a storm that will result in a season of renewal.  Renewal results in replacing that which is broken, worn out or decayed.  These issues are complex, but returning to the purity of serving God could result in a positive change. 
If we do not:Will the august God that the United States is failing to worship, honor or obeyfind the nation worthy of redemption or will it be replaced?
Change is on the horizon!!
