Thought:
At the invitation of a friend, I recently attended a health seminar featuring Dr. Georgia M. Dunston. She is a former professor of Human Immunogenetics and the founding director of the National Human Genome Center at Howard University. As a bible believing scientist, she is using the study of Genomics to support the thesis that man is unique and is created in God’s image. She is a pretty interesting person!
What are Genomes?(I had to go to Genomics for Dummies, so don’t feel bad).
Genome: Is the genetic material that makes up a living organism. It is contained in chromosomes, which are the tiny threadlike structures inside cells. Chromosomes are made from a chemical substance called DNA. The Genome is the DNA encoded definition of every living thing. Even twins have their own genomes which enforces the theory that each of us is “one of a kind” with our own set of genetic instructions passed down or inherited from our parents.HOW EXCITING IS IT TO KNOW THAT THERE IS NO ONE LIKE YOU!!
GOD: The creative genius that made us, has been specific towards each one of us. He has encoded all that we are on a tiny thread that defines all that we are. He has fearfully and wonderfully made every one of us. And like any good artist, God wants to be appreciated for the care that he has taken in creating the body of the human before He breathed life into us and made us a living soul.
IT IS ALSO EXCITING TO KNOW THAT SINCE “God created man in his own image." … we humans, have been endowed with the nature and desire to create, just like the nature of God. But we have to keep in mind that we are creations of God.WHY DID GOD CREATE MAN? God made humans to rule over the fowls of the air, the fish of the sea and over the creatures that roam over the ground. Humans were made to conquer, maintain and manage the creatures of the land and to multiply. God created humanity to be under His authority and rulership.
God has given humanity unlimited creative potential. Mankind is most successful in His creativity when he is operating according to his reason for existence. Again, that reason is to multiply and to be a good steward over the earth.
Beauty, joy, continuity, inspiration and growth, is the outcome of creative outflows of an imagination inspired and directed by God. God inspired creativity works to the benefit of other human beings. When mankind creates according to God’s purpose for their existence, not only can humanity control the life of the individual more effectively, but can then manifest miracles and exhibit the power, nature, excellence and handiwork of God. All things will work together for good.
It is unfortunate that the divinity that God shared when He breathed the breath of life, into mankind, that now mankind has selfishly and arrogantly declared his dominion over other human beings. This attitude is in direct contradiction to God’s purpose for the existence of humanity. Consequently, the creative output inspired by the nature of mankind is powered by sin: greed, power, control and perversion that results in negative and destructive outcomes for humanity and the earth. Mankind is the creator of confusion and destruction.
God has given mankind the ability to create a life and a legacy that is as unique as we are. We can choose to create our lives to honor, obey and surrender to the will and authority of God or NOT!
Then the question to each of us becomes ….
At the end of my life’s story, what will I have created? Will it be a life that has left a praiseworthy legacy of hope for the futureor one that when I leave, I would ask that you through my messy creation into the lake of fire?
